Jonah
H Goldman is the Director of the National Campaign for Fair
Elections in the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights
Under Laws Voting Rights Project. Jonah is responsible
for implementing the Campaigns mission of developing
policy and strategy to reform the administration of elections
at the federal, state and local level. His responsibilities
include leadership in the Election Protection Coalition,
the National Network on State Election Reform, and the Lawyers
Committee election reform advocacy and litigation docket.
The
Election Protection Coalition is an unprecedented non-partisan
effort of over 100 hundred organizations to protect the
rights of voters. For the 2004 election, the Lawyers
Committee had primary responsibility for recruiting, placing,
and training several thousand legal volunteers and operating
a national, toll-free hotline (1-866-OUR-VOTE) that received
over 200,000 calls in the 2004 election cycle. Jonah played
a leadership role in managing the Lawyers Committees
effort in 2004, including coordinating efforts with the
numerous Election Protection partners and volunteers and
designing and implementing a training curriculum for legal
volunteers.
Jonah co-founded the National Network on Election Reform,
a consortium of national civil rights, voting rights, and
civic organizations dedicated to implementing meaningful
election reform at the state and national level. The National
Networks activities include commenting on how federal
legislative priorities will effect state election administration,
advocating for prospective, meaningful election reform,
and working with advocates on the ground to develop the
most successful strategies for improving the way political
decision makers are elected.
Jonah has been a frequent commentator on the issues confronting
American democracy. In addition to testifying before legislative
bodies, he is frequently asked by the media for his opinions
on the subject. Jonah has also been asked to speak about
election reform in front of numerous conferences including
the American Bar Association, the National Conference on
State Legislatures, the NAACP, and the Southern Regional
Council.
Before joining the Lawyers Committee, Jonah served
as the Public Policy Fellow for the Jewish Council for Public
Affairs (JCPA) in Washington, D.C where he was responsible
for the JCPAs legislative advocacy on a number of
social justice issues including hunger relief, the extension
of federal hate crimes legislation, and opposing the expansion
of Charitable Choice.
Jonah graduated with honors from Binghamton University and
from Boston College Law School where he received the John
F. Cremens Award for outstanding work in clinical programs.
