as Co-Chair of Election Protection-DC

Remington has been appointed co-chair, together
with co-chair Herbert J. Hansell of Jones
Day, of the Washington, DC Legal Coordinating
Committee of Election Protection 2004. Election
Protection is a non-partisan nationwide program
of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights
Under Law to protect voting rights and promote
public understanding of the electoral process.
Washington,
DC is essential to the Election Protection
program because it will be the site of the
National Command Center and the largest arm
of a National Hotline operation. Nationwide,
Election Protection will be staffed by thousands
of legal volunteers to provide voters in local
communities with access to immediate legal
advice and assistance on election day. Election
Protection is co-sponsored by the American
Bar Association and the National Bar Association
and is supported by more than one hundred
partnering corporations and organizations
including the People for the American Way
Foundation, the National Coalition for Black
Civic Participation, and the Congressional
Black Caucus Foundation, the NAACP LDF, NAACP,
the National Council of La Raza, Verified
Voting, the Electronic Frontier Foundation
and Common Cause.
